Chiswick terraces, Bedford Park, Osterley semis
Chiswick is period terrace and villa, much of it in conservation areas, with the long narrow rear gardens that go with the type. Bedford Park is a special case: the first garden suburb, largely listed and closely controlled, where the relationship between house, hedge, front garden and street is the point of the place. Isleworth and Brentford mix riverside development with older cottages, while Osterley, Hounslow proper and Feltham are inter-war and post-war semis on regular plots with side access. That last group is where the larger builds happen, simply because machinery can reach the back.
